New Zealand Travel Requirements & Entry Guidelines
Start ApplicationClick Here
New Zealand now requires most international visitors to complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before arrival. This applies to travelers from all countries, regardless of visa requirements. The NZTD must be completed online at travellerdeclaration.govt.nz or through the official mobile app, and it should be done within 24 hours before your departure to New Zealand. Once submitted, the NZTD confirms your travel, health, and customs information for border processing.
Before departure, always check if you need to complete the NZTD and any additional entry steps based on your nationality.
Passport Requirements
Your passport must remain valid for the entire duration of your stay in New Zealand.
For visa waiver travelers, it’s recommended to have at least six months’ validity.
Ensure your passport has one blank page available for arrival and departure stamps.
Traveller Declaration & Arrival Protocols
The New Zealand Traveller Declaration is mandatory for most air arrivals.
Border officials may still ask about your plans or inspect documentation.
Keep your travel details and proof of accommodation easily accessible.
Stay informed of any health or safety advisories affecting your entry to New Zealand.
Visa Requirements
- Citizens of countries such as the EU, USA, Canada, Australia, and Japan can typically visit for up to 3 months without a visa.
- Other nationalities must apply for a Visitor Visa at immigration.govt.nz.
- If transiting through New Zealand, check whether a transit visa is needed.
- Be prepared to show financial proof, onward travel, and lodging details at the border.
